A retractable lead with a moulded housing, in seven colours.
What it is
A plastic-bodied retractable lead. The housing measures 16.3 × 11.6 × 4.8 cm.
Blue, black, yellow, red, red stripe, blue stripe or army green stripe.
Who it's for
Open spaces — fields, quiet trails, beaches — where a dog can range without meeting much.
Retractable leads are the wrong tool in several common situations, and we would rather say so:
-
Not near roads or traffic. Several metres of lead is several metres a dog can be into the road before the brake engages.
-
Not in crowds or near other dogs. A long lead tangles people and animals.
-
Not for a dog that lunges. A dog hitting the end of the tape at speed generates a serious shock — to their neck and your hand.
- Attach it to a harness, not a collar.
What the supplier does not publish
The tape length and the maximum dog weight are both missing from the supplier listing. On a retractable lead those are the two specifications that matter most — one tells you how far your dog can get, the other whether the brake will hold them. We have asked for both and we are not guessing at either.
If your dog is large or strong, contact us before ordering, or take the flat-tape lead that publishes its 3 m and 5 m lengths.
